You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Hazard Deficiency Program Management and Analysis Branch (Code 106.24) of the Safety and Health Division (Code 106.2), occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) Office (Code 106) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will serve as a principle OSHE advisor to senior managers while planning and conducting surveys of operations and facilities to evaluate the effectiveness of safety and health requirements.
You will conduct independent accident investigations of all classes and categories of accidents to analyze contributing factors and establish corrective measures.
You will develop instructional materials, schedules, coordinates and conducts safety briefings, safety training classes, and professional development classes for mangers, junior and senior level leaders within NNSY
You will provide planning, oversight and direction to NNSY and/or NAVSEA activities to ensure comprehensive OSHE requirements are incorporated into production work processes.
Requirements

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with applying knowledge of safety, health, and fire protection regulations, standards, principles
Experience with mishap investigation techniques sufficient to control, identify and correct unsafe, unhealthful working conditions procedures, processes and practices.
Experience with collecting, managing, and analyzing program/process data for trend analysis
Experience with performing structural, electrical, mechanical and ergonomic safety design analysis.
Experience with interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to identify potential hazards in new or modifying existing facilities.
Experience with applying technical knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and state and local laws

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR
Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to this position being filled.
