About the Position: This position is located within the Director for Surgery, Office of the Chief, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Incumbent is responsible for the supervision of administrative functions in support of a large subordinate element within an assigned Deputy Command.
Duties
Provide leadership, supervision and development to subordinate Health System Specialists and administrative employees.
Assist in development and execution of department and service budget and assist subordinate Health System Specialists in developing and reviewing budget plans for their services.
Analyze healthcare policies/procedures/programs to ensure they are beneficial, cost-effective, and meet quality/productivity standards. Resolve complex and unusual healthcare administration issues.
Maintain constant communication with senior leadership regarding resource management, personnel management, and healthcare administration for the department.
Utilize automated systems to complete human resource tasks, supervisory tasks, and healthcare administration tasks.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working in a medical treatment facility analyzing and advising on health care system issues and policies; providing analysis for the quality improvement programs; identifying administrative program issues and recommending solutions; monitoring/coordinating personnel matters for an organization/department within a medical treatment facility; providing input/recommendations on budgetary matters; and assisting with establishing performance standards and evaluating employee performance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
