About the Position: Serves as a Family Advocacy Program Specialist under the general supervision of the Human Performance and Wellness (HPW) Director in the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) (1SFC(A)) in Fort Liberty, NC.
Duties
Independently coordinates and directs the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) for 1SFC(A) and in collaboration with the higher headquarters, United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).
Incumbent works in accordance with laws, regulations, policies, and standard operation procedures.
Plans, develops, disseminates and executes Army and USASOC FAP policy guidance and regulatory standards for family advocacy program services delivery.
Evaluates the effectiveness of programs, information, and instruction to 1SFC(A) personnel.
Uses reports and surveys to analyze 1SFC(A), garrison program resources, personnel, and facility requirements.
Develops program budget guidance regarding the use of resource requests within the family advocacy program arena.
Obtains, maintains, and analyzes data for planning and reporting purposes in accordance with governing program guidance.
Serves as staff action officer for FAP.
Researches and prepares fact sheets, information papers, memorandum, briefings and other correspondence concerning program areas.
Plans, develops, executes, evaluates, and modifies a training program designed to provide 1SFC(A) personnel with information and guidance regarding program procedures and policies to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement up to 10% of the time.

Basic Requirement for Family Advocacy Program Specialist GS-001-11:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Criminal Justice.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience: 1) Providing services to improve family relationships and client resources. 2) Evaluating the effectiveness of family advocacy programs to make recommendations to improve capabilities and efficiency. 3) Determining program resource requirements to include manpower, supplies, equipment, or other expenditures required for program operations. 4) Conducting family advocacy training and/or education programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Criminal Justice. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
