You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Environmental Monitoring Section (Code 106.323), in the Environment Division (ED) (Code 106.3), of the Occupational Safety Health and Environment Office (OSHE) (Code 106D) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will ensure that all work performed is properly documented and reported in a timely manner
You will use computers and automated date programs as necessary to produce and maintain adequate records and file
systems.
You will make initial reports and initiate emergency response actions for any hazardous spills/release observed, whether or not associated with assigned duties
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying knowledge of pumps, piping systems for potable water, sanitary sewer, and/or storm sewer systems and/or facilities.
Experience with waterfront facilities such as temporary systems and/or shipboard operations.
Experience laws such as Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) Compliance Program, the Clean Water Act (CWA),Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), and the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA).
Experience with performing a wide variety of cross-connection inspections and surveys to ensure environmental compliance.
Experience with performing sampling and analysis of hazardous waste.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.B. or J.D., if related.
