About the Position: Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the Army Field Support Brigade (AFSB) with responsibility for the overall Safety Program throughout area of responsibility (AOR). This position requires incumbent to be ready and able to deploy as required in support of varied contingencies. Work performed will be under stressful, arduous and austere field conditions in CONUS or OCONUS. Failure to deploy may result in separation from Federal service.

Duties

Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the Army Field Support Brigade (AFSB) with responsibility for the overall Safety Program throughout area of responsibility (AOR). Provides safety expertise to brigade personnel who are engaged in widely dispersed and diversified missions within the AOR. Provides safety advice and guidance on the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and consensus standards. Provides expert advice and guidance to the commander, managers, and staff for appropriate accident prevention measures, which will allow the brigade to achieve mission goals with minimum risk of injury to personnel and damage to equipment. Provides supervision of subordinate Safety and Occupation Health specialists. Actively participates in key decision-making sessions conducted by the Brigade leaders concerning integration of risk management into all facets of the mission. Oversees employee safety training and facilitates and/or actively participates in various Command Safety Council endeavors.

Requirements

  • This is a deployable DA civilian position. As such, incumbent must pass an initial and annual medical examination and receive/remain up to date on required immunization for overseas or deployed location.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
  • The incumbent must continue to perform the duties and requirements of the position to ensure the success of combat operations or to support combat essential systems subsequent to mobilization or an evacuation order.
  • Additional training, medical requirements, and deployment responsibilities may apply to this position.
  • Position may require temporary duty (TDY) of any length including 6 months in duration or longer in CONUS or OCONUS in austere locations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete on-line computer based training and residential deployment training, as applicable.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
