You will serve as a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (OFFICE AUTOMATION) in the FREIGHT SECTION, DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT DIVISION (DMO),G-4, of MARINE CORPS BASE.
Duties
You will plan the movement of all kinds of shipments to include hazardous materials, ordnance, and heavy haul items (i.e., weapons, ammunition and perishables, etc.).
You will consider specialized shipment needs and storage capabilities to identify and arrange for the most appropriate shipping method, carrier equipment, services or special handling requirements.
You will coordinate arrangement for these items for carriers and other activity personnel to develop specialized packing, loading and handling methods for shipments requiring special protection.
You will arrange for routings or shipments with urgent delivery dates or those that cannot be transported through normal channels.
You will review, apply and interpret regulations relative to the movement of a wide range of specialized shipments, for example, movement of oversized, heavy haul, hazardous, and security risk items.
You will be responsible for weighing all authorized vehicles to obtain tare and gross weights as required.
You will check paperwork to verify count/condition of cargo and seal numbers. Inspect material for damages or shortages and not all discrepancies on Delivery Receipt.
You will update the computer systems used in transportation (Cargo Movement Operation System (CMOS), Transportation Management System (TMS), etc.).

- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Planning the movement of freight and specialized shipments (e.g., hazardous materials, weapons, ammunition, perishables) to ensure that mission objectives are met; 2) Providing guidance to ensure freight shipments are in compliance with industry transportation regulations concerning correct classification, handling, marking, and coding; 3) Providing transportation assistance on terminal or storage capabilities to identify the appropriate shipping method, carrier equipment, services and special handling requirements; 4) Processing claims and discrepancy reports and maintaining shipping and receiving data in an automated system; and 5) Obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information on incoming/outgoing shipments by coordinating shipment orders with internal and external personnel.
This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
