About the Position: This position is located in the Army Futures Command Headquarters - Executive Services (Protocol) office. Executive Services is the AFC Staff Directorate responsible for the execution and operation of protocol functions in the Headquarters (HQ) and the Joint Visitor's Bureau (JVB) for special missions and large events of the AFC Commander.
Duties
Serves as Lead Protocol Specialist of Executive Services in US Army Futures Command (AFC) supporting the Commander, Deputy Commander, Deputy to the Commander, and Command Sergeant Major of Army Futures (AFC).
Establishes protocol policies and procedures; and focused conference planning, weekly updates and briefing requirements to four and multi-star general and flag officers, senior executive service members, internal and external staff, Army legislative affairs and house caucus, the Army staff, and subordinate organizations.
Maintains close coordination with Department of Army (DA), Army Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs (OCLL), Cross Functional Teams (CFTs), Futures and Concepts Center (FCC), Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), Medical Research and Development Command (MEDCOM), other Army Commands (ACOMs) and academia and private high-tech industry.
Responds to requests for advice/assistance from the spouses of the Commanding General, Deputy Commanding Generals, Deputy to the Commanding General (SES), Chief of Staff and other members of the senior Army leadership.
Ensures responses are coordinated, as required, while maintaining confidentiality appropriate to the issue.
Ensures that all AFC conferences follow published guidelines developed by the Office of Executive Services.
Plans, coordinates and executes that portion of the program that deals with hotels, cultural tours, meals, socials and receptions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret/SCI security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying knowledge of protocol techniques sufficient to advise on the application of protocol practices for official events and visits; 2) Planning and coordinating military and civilian, foreign and domestic visits/functions, ceremonies and special events; 3) Interfacing with staff directorates, other agencies, commands, installations, foreign embassies in order to plan and execute visits, conferences, and social events; and 4) Developing long-range and short-range protocol and event management planning guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-13.
