About the Position: The incumbent serves as a Regional Maintenance Manager. This position is assigned to the Integrated Logistics Support Center, Associate Directorate for Weapon System Management Joint Base Lewis-McChord Field Office (LBAA), Pierce, WA.
Duties
Serves as Maintenance Manager, responsible for synchronizing forward maintenance activities to maintain a high state of material readiness and optimize the use of resources throughout the designated region.
Provides maintenance advice to the CECOM Forward Element Director/Senior Command Representative, informs supported units about regional capabilities and accomplishments.
Advises system mangers on the effectiveness of their forward sustainment programs.
Monitors ongoing maintenance operations.
Recommends prioritization to keep capabilities aligned with supported unit requirements.
Coordinates the implementation of new or enhanced maintenace operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance, or access, for duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to routinely travel (approximately 30%), sometimes on short notice, to worldwide locations using the most expedient mode of transportation available (including military and commercial aircraft).
- Employee must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployed location.
- This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL (E-E) position subject to deployment. Anthrax inoculation program participation may be required to meet deployment availability requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Manage and maintain material readiness and optimal resources for the forward maintenance operations for a designated region; 2) Conduct periodic internal reviews to evaluate effectiveness of forward maintenance programs; 3) Advise system managers on the effectiveness of their forward sustainment programs; and 4) Implement innovative approaches to resolve unusual/difficult issues significantly impacting important polices or programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-02/GS-11).
This is a DoD Demonstration Project position. Under the Defense Authorization Act, personnel management demonstration programs are operating in numerous Army activities and various other organizations supported by Army civilian personnel centers. Under the streamlined personnel operations for the demonstration projects, the familiar 15 General Schedule grade structure is replaced with broad pay bands that typically encompass a range of grades. For example, NH-III of positions encompass the traditional GS-12 through GS-13 grades. Other initiatives under the demonstration projects include simplified job classification, streamlined hiring processes, and expanded developmental opportunities.
