Job opening: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER

Salary: $37 - 43 per hour

You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will serve as working leader over at least three trades and crafts employees, and as coordinator/team lead between supervisor and teams of employees. You will lead a group of diverse tradesmen who perform the full range of work encompassing the trades of Electrician, Air Conditioning Mechanic, Carpenter, Pipefitter, Maintenance Mechanic, Sheet Metal Mechanic, Plumber and Fire alarm technicians. You will ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). You will report to supervisor on status and progress of work and causes for work delays. You will direct development or formulation of work activities which support goals and objectives related to maintenance work operations.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • You may be required to work at a job site or location other than the permanently assigned location.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Using of a wide variety of hand tools, test equipment, power tools, and equipment to perform the work; 2) Planning, laying out, and completing installation, modification, and repair of new and existing electrical and/or mechanical systems; 3) Interpreting building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering documents, drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to plan work. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. PHYSICAL EFFORT Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. The work may subject employee to long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work will require lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to lift or move heavier equipment with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS The work is performed both inside and outside. The work may subject employee to work outside in bad weather; in work areas taht are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters. May be occasionally exposed to ther possiblility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and moving equipment. May be exposed to the possiblity of cuts and bruises. Personal protective equipment such as, protective clothing, helmets, goggles, repirators, etc. may be required to be worn.
