Job opening: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC HELPER

Salary: $24 - 28 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic Helper in the Facilities Management and Sustainment Branch, Public Division, Public Works Department Great Lakes of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will perform simple and routine tasks of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. You will assist by supplying appropriate tools, equipment and work materials. You will accomplish work in accordance with instructions provided by higher graded employees. You will prepare worksite and gather necessary tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to posses a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION : I have the ability to perform common tasks including : 1) Ability to follow oral instructions and read and comprehend simple written instructions and specifications. 2) Has the ability to learn the simpler tasks of the various trades located in the department. 3) Ability to learn and develop the basic skills necessary to use and care for a variety of common tools and equipment. 4) Has the ability to learn general and trade related safety requirements and practices and apply that knowledge to work safely. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
