Job opening: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Salary: $29 - 38 per hour

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic in the Production Division, Public Works Department Great Lakes of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. You will connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. You will inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair. You will install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment within facility infrastructure. You will use and assure proper fit of required safety/personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing (e.g., safety gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, or respirators, etc.) You will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. You will plan, layout, and complete the installation, modification and repair of systems.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may be considered ESSENTIAL. You will be required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations, such as, but not limited to, destructive weather.
  • You may at any time be assigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: For the WG-08: 1) Assisting with planning, laying out and completing the installation, modification and repair of systems; 2) Using hand tools applicable to the trade, e.g., power tools, such as cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines; and a wide variety of test equipment, e.g. , meggers, multimeters, frequency meters, watt meters, and testing systems such as, signal generators, signal tracers, oscilloscopes and/or automatic testing systems; 3) Utilizing safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment; 4) Using and assuring proper fit of required safety/personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing (e.g., safety gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, or respirators, etc.). For the WG-10: 1) Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem; 2) Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components; 3) Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair; 4) Repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment; 5) Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment within facility infrastructure Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
