Job opening: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC HELPER

Salary: $24 - 32 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC HELPER in the FACILITIES MANAGEMENT & SUSTAINMENT (FM&S) PRODUCT LINE of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will assist in repairing floors, ceilings, walls, and sections of paneling. You will assist in altering and modifying existing walls and /or removing sections of room partitions. You will assist in preparing coating material by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing. You will assist in filling in cracks and holes using material such as plaster, putty, and plastic wood. You will assist the Maintenance Mechanic as a helper while developing skills and knowledge to move to intermediate and journey levels.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty to include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to work overtime and alternate shift duty.
  • May be designated as essential personnel and required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

WG-7:The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. 1) Assisting a Maintenance Mechanic who will give instructions on how to perform the common duties of the trade; 2) Performing more difficult work as training progresses; 3) Assisting in the construction of walls and partitions using wood and metal studs; 4) Assisting in building concrete forms for concrete structures and erecting dust shields; 5) Assisting in altering and modifying existing walls and/or adding or removing sections of room partitions and repairing floors, ceilings, walls, and sections of paneling; 6) Helping to prepare and coat surfaces such as plaster, wallboard, concrete, aluminum, steel, and wood using standard methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying; 7) Assisting in the preparation of coating material by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing; and 8) Using various types of coatings such as latex, stains, varnishes, epoxy, etc. WG-5:The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. 1) Assisting a Maintenance Mechanic who will give instructions on how to perform the common duties of the trade; 2) Assisting in building concrete forms for concrete structures and erecting dust shields; 3) Assisting in altering and modifying existing walls and/or adding or removing sections of room partitions and repairing floors, ceilings, walls, and sections of paneling; 4) Assisting in replacing missing screw, bolts, hinges and locks; 5) Assisting in the preparation of coating material by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing; and 6) Helps to fill cracks and holes using material such as plaster, putty, and plastic wood.
