You will serve as a SUBMARINE ORDNANCE SPECIALIST in the WEAPONS DEPARTMENT, NAVAL SUBMARINE SUPPORT FACILITY (NSSF) NEW LONDON.

Duties

You will act as the Assistant Weapons Officer, responsible for all matters pertaining to handling, transportation, and storage of all ordnance material and small arms. You will maintain active awareness of waterfront operations and communicate with tended units and parent submarine squadrons to ensure handling evolutions are safe and efficient. You will provide small arms training and oversee the operation and maintenance of the Small Arms Range. You will supervise the maintenance of all buildings, spaces, and equipment assigned in a high state of readiness. You will be responsible for supporting complex projects. You will become qualified as Quality Assurance/Safety Officer for all weapons and weapons handling operation, then provide direct supervision of all qualifications at weapons (NSSF).

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience planning and conducting reviews, surveillance and analyses of the Ordnance Certification and Qualification programs. Experience managing and performing inventories of torpedoes, missiles, small arms and ammunitions. Experience maintaining a budget for transportation and equipment. Experience reviewing programs and procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of financial, physical, and human resources to ensure continued compliance with government approved management control systems and training requirement. Experience maintaining the ordnance handling certification and qualification process, ordnance requisitioning and issuing, and safety and security measures for all small arms, ammunition, and explosives. Experience in all phases of weapons handling, transportation, and storage in order to provide technical review and guidance.
