You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING DIVISION, RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan the availability of required special radiation and radioactivity instruments or equipment for work assignments. You will develop input on radiological control requirements to be used during special jobs, assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will conduct surveillance of work involving radiological controls and radioactive materials and radiological controls to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures. You will determine training and staffing requirements for various evolutions and controlled areas.

• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Qualified, or previously qualified, in accordance with NAVSEA 389-0288 Article 108. * Experience with an extensive understanding of physical science principles and techniques of radiological control requirements. * Experience enforcing nuclear work processes and trade operations sufficient to plan and coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate radiological controls. * Experience directing and coordinating work of subordinate technicians, Ship's Force, and others to ensure efficiency in radiological control operations. * Experience recognizing radiation health factors and to assess the effects of the nuclear environment on equipment, systems, materials, and personnel.
