You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING DIVISION, RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will conduct surveillances and oversight of work assuring proper controls.
You will oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of the Waterfront Support Program, Refueling/Defueling Program, or Facilities Support Program goals and objectives.
You will provide on-scene radiological control response for actual or potential radiological emergencies
You will review, assess, and revise policies, procedures, proposed instructions, and manuals recommending changes to management.
You will coordinate with management, other branches, divisions, departments, and Ship's Force to resolve any problems.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience providing a comprehensive understanding of engineering methods and techniques, particularly with nuclear powered systems and nuclear propulsion plant maintenance;
Experience utilizing technical expertise assuring compliance with Shipyard radiation monitoring/control requirements as defined in NAVSEA 389-0288 Radiological Controls;
Experience developing and conducting training programs for management, engineering and Radiological Control personnel;
Experience planning, organizing, and providing technical and administrative supervision over personnel, equipment, and procedures (i.e. reviewing radiological requirements, preparing justification for requirements exceeding branch resources, evaluating new monitoring equipment, and making recommendations for utilization);
Experience reviewing, assessing, and revising policies and procedures and proposed instructions and manuals recommending changes to management.
