You will serve as a Physical Science Technician (Instructor) in the Radiological Worker Training Branch, Radiological Support Division of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will plan, develop, coordinate, progress and evaluate the adequacy and efficiency of programs and provide knowledge and experience on health physics and applied radiological controls.
You will review written tests and surveil practical tests administered by other shops and codes for accuracy in grading and adherence to established policies and procedures.
You will train students to local and Naval Sea Systems requirements and review written and practical abilities tests associated with training.
You will evaluate radiation awareness training for non-radiation workers in the shipyard, including visitors.
You will recommend and institute changes to procedures used to improve effectiveness of training.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience conducting or supervising specialized, technical detailed training with theoretical and practical abilities;
Experience advising management on the status of radiological training and anticipating problems and try to resolve at the lowest level;
Experience researching and reviewing courses involving radiological controls including reviews of tests, practical, mockup training, lesson plans and visual aids;
Experience evaluating classroom and practical ability training to review adequacy, accuracy, effectiveness and adherence to standards;
Experience conducting surveillances to monitor effectiveness of training and adherence to standards.
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience ensuring training records, qualification re-qualification records are current and correct;
Experience training junior personnel in the organization, reviews their work for accuracy and completeness;
Experience evaluating exposure data, surveys, work practices and procedures to assess the radiological impact on personnel during a work operation;
Experience evaluating the adequacy in actual work or training of monitoring procedures, protective clothing, dosimetry and potential environment impact.
