You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING DIVISION, RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will have control of personnel exposure to ionizing radiation. You will conduct surveillance of work involving radioactive materials and radiological controls. You will plan and assign work to the subordinate staff to meet radiological coverage schedules. You will coordinate with other supervisors to ensure proper radiological coverage in all assigned areas. You will plan the availability of requires radiation and radioactivity instruments for work assignments. You will determine training and staffing requirements for various evolutions and controlled areas. You will develop input on radiological control requirements to be used during these special jobs, assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will conduct surveillance of work involving radiological controls and radioactive materials to ensure adherence to established policies. You will perform supervisory personnel functions and be assigned first line supervisory responsibilities.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing technical guidance in understanding and applying standardized rules, procedures, and operations through reviewing and analyzing radiological work assignments and documents; Experience supervising the setup, operation, maintenance and calibration to a variety of test equipment of a variety of test equipment and report observations and findings applying standards and guidelines; Experience overseeing and advising personnel functions regarding performance, training, development, and behavior; Experience developing recommendations for improved methods, procedures, equipment, etc., to prevent recurrence or to improve radiological control operations; Experience planning, coordinating, participating, and reviewing radiological response(s) as needed.
