You will serve as a Physical Science Technician in the Radiological Monitoring Division (Code 105.3), Radiological Control Office, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine.
Duties
You will serve as a Senior Physical Science Technician providing radiological control oversight of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
You will ensure proper handling and control of radioactive material, adherence to proper exposure control work practices, proper documentation of radiological surveys, and coordination and control of response to radiological situations.
You will identify, correct and document deficient conditions or work practices to prevent elevated radiological impact.
You will assist the Division with control of personnel exposure to ionizing radiation, protection against radioactive contamination and protection of the public against exposure to ionizing radiation.
You will provide on-the-job mentoring and training for junior radiological technicians to ensure adequate development and proficiency.
You will communicate assignments providing daily and project-specific direction to junior personnel, including validating readiness for work.
You will provide on-scene radiological control response for actual or potential radiological emergencies, casualties, training exercises and proficiency drills.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience performing, documenting, and providing oversight of radiological surveys;
Experience interpreting nuclear work processes and trade operations sufficient to plan and coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate radiological controls;
Experience directing and coordinating subordinate technicians, Ship's Force, and others to ensure efficiency;
Experience providing radiological control oversight of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program ensuring proper handling and control of radioactive material;
Experience ensuring work has been properly engineered and is commensurate with working conditions and work practices.
