This position is located in Kayenta Health Center, Division of Administrative Services, Patient Registration/Admissions Department, Kayenta, AZ. The purpose of this position is to perform admitting, transferring and discharging of inpatients. The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Health Systems Specialist.
Duties
Interviews patients and/or families to obtain pertinent and accurate patient registration information to update or initiate new record.
Identifies patients with health insurance that are subject to precertification/prior approvals to determine the extent of health care for emergency, surgical, inpatient and outpatient services, and also obtains third party coverage information by collecting and photocopying health insurance cards.
Assists patients in completing new or updated forms for RPMS Patient Registration System and obtains all necessary signatures, and enters all information into the Patient Registration System (RPMS) and prints appropriate forms.
Oversees the Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) System for inpatient services.
Initiates census by running Admission and Discharge sheets from previous day admits.
Initiates M-202 report to reconcile against the coded A-sheet (ASR) to assure the calculation for discharge is accurate.
Checks and codes chart utilizing proper types of admission codes; inpatient observation status is communicated to the Utilization Review department.
Oversees the Day Surgery function for the inpatient services, if needed, admits patients into the day surgery package and follow-up is done on all referrals.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the one (1) year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
GS-05: Must have one (1) year equivalent to at least GS-04 to qualify and/or 4 years above high school.
Specialized Experience: Interview patients to obtain pertinent registration information; determine eligibility and verify insurance; knowledge of medical terminology; provide general clerical office support; schedule appointments in a hospital or clinic setting; prepare patient referrals and releases of information; receive patients and answer phone calls; utilize automated patient registration system to update patient records; manage patient reminders of appointments; utilize the electronic health record, and insurance eligibility & verification software; and provide general clerical office support.
GS-06: Must have one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level.
Specialized Experience:Manage schedule of appointments, meetings, and trainings; knowledge of specialized medical terminology; record information accurately; communicates and enforces departmental policies and procedures; works closely and provide support services with other departments such as Providers, Patient Benefits Coordinators, Patient Referred Care, and Business Office for patient care needs.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
