This position is located in the Outpatient Department (OPD), Ambulatory Care Services Division, of the Kayenta Health Center (KHC), Kayenta, Arizona. The outpatient has the following Clinics: Pediatrics, Diabetes, Women's Health, ENT, Employees Health and other Specialty clinics. The purpose of the position is to provide clerical and technical support for all outpatient clinics, in order to promote and maintain the efficient functioning of all these clinics.
Duties
Initiates and carries out a variety of medical support duties associated with patient care and treatment of patients such as a receptionist, clerical, record keeping, key entering, and retrieving patient data from automated system utilized by the clinic.
Coordinates and maintains patient appointments for timeliness to avoid conflicts in patient treatment and to meet the schedule of clinic or service to which patient is referred.
Serves as a receptionist or OPD; greets visitors, patients, families, staff and providers; answer questions and directs patients/visitors to appropriate clinical locations or department.
Provides interpretation/translation skills as necessary; answers questions and assists patient via telephone or face-to-face; answers telephone calls and directs to the appropriate department.
Participates in orientation of new providers and/or nursing staff. Will be assigned to rotating basis to be responsible for taking minutes for departmental meetings.
Assigned to be an alternate timekeeper during the absence of the department secretary.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to a GS-04 grade level OR four (4) years of education above high school.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the one (1) year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience. Experience in taking and relaying messages to appropriate personnel; assembling and preparing the appropriate charts and forms; routing patient records according to established procedures; maintaining record confidentiality and safeguarding of medical information; assisting with updating policies and procedures.
Typing Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants must provide evidence of their typing proficiency of 40 words per minute typing speed based on a 5-minute sample from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates. Certificate must not be over three (3) years old and must be on a business letterhead. This agency does not accept self-certifications. For current or former Navajo Area Indian Health Service employees who left within three (3) years, you may attach a copy of your latest SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, that indicates Office Automation (OA) next to your position title.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
