This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit, Division of Clinical Services, Outpatient Care Branch, Kayenta, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to perform receptionist, record keeping, key-entering, retrieving patient data from the facility's automated systems and to provide support work to medical staff.
Duties
Assists patients in completing forms, determining their status for eligibility for health care.
Performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care and treatment in one of several clinics. Performs a variety of receptionist duties, retrieves and files medical records; transcribes health care provider's order and medical data.
Performs a variety of record keeping duties, reviews patient records, performs a full range of miscellaneous support duties, resolves problems that arise from late appointments and emergencies that further delay scheduled patients being seen on time, coordinates the scheduling of follow-up appointments. Assists the clinic in the ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
Serves as a Patient Registration Clerk, interview patients, enters updates, verifies and maintaining alternate resources data. Assists patients in completing new or updated forms for the automated patient registration system.
Identifies patients whose health benefits coverage requires prior approval, verify eligibility for Medicaid, Medicare, and/or Private or commercial insurance.
Collects and copies third party health cards, determines when to initiate a new health record or notify Medical Records Department. Interviews patient, enters the required information into the Patient Registration System and prints the required forms.
Initiates admission forms and enters current patient's data.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
GS-05: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to a GS-04 grade level OR four (4) years of education above high school.
Combining Education an Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-05 and below. For GS-05 level position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours, (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
College Transcripts: Must be provided for this position if substituting education for experience at the GS-05 grade level. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks.
Specialized Experience: Experience in scheduling patient appointment, retrieving patient charts, printing Health Summaries, stamping patient care encounter forms and appropriate charge tickets, and delivering to appropriate staff. Performs clerical duties related to patient referrals, admissions, and discharges and routes patient records according to established protocols. Keeps patient records in order with all forms properly identified. Maintains records confidentiality and safeguards medical information. Able to assess the patients need for urgent and emergent appointments with appropriate provider and clinic.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
