This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit, Kayenta Health Center, Division of Nursing Services, Primary Care Branch, Outpatient Department (OPD), Kayenta, Arizona. The purpose of the position is to provide clerical and technical support for the outpatient clinics, in order to promote and maintain the efficient functioning of all these clinics.
Duties
-Coordinate patient appointments, while referring & scheduling appointments for patients requested by outside facilities at Kayenta Service Unit Clinic
-Interact with outside hospital facilities and other Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities to schedule treatment, consultation, admission, or tests
-Serve as a receptionist for the department by greeting visitors, patients, families, staff and providers; answering questions and directing patients/visitors to appropriate clinical locations or department
-Identify patients that are in need of update related to patient registration; direct patients to patient registration for interview to obtain pertinent registration information
-File the results of various tests, and copies of referrals.
-Participate in orientation of new providers and/or nursing staff
-Assigned on a rotating basis to be responsible for taking minutes for departmental meetings.
-May be assigned to be an alternate timekeeper during the absence of the department secretary
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to a GS-04 grade level OR four (4) years of education above high school.
Specialized Experience - Makes appointments using automated system and assists with processing referrals, calls patients to notify of appointments, filing, record keeping, and other patient care support functions. Scheduled consultation and referral appointments with various clinics and services throughout the medical facility and elsewhere. Answer the phone, take messages, and direct patients to the proper location for needed services. Assemble patient charts, use electronic health record, RPMS, and scheduling software ability to type/use a computer keyboard and computer processing skills. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and syntax.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
