About the Position: This position is located with U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 407th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Cavazos, TX.
This is a Planned Management Action open to Current Civilian Employees of the Organization. Consideration will also be given to current Army employees with competitive status.
Duties
Operate forklifts and container handling equipment capable of lifting 2,000 to 55,000 pounds, respectively, to move, load or unload, transfer and transport, and stack or unstack palletized goods, boxes, crates, merchandise, materials and supplies.
Maneuver material handling equipment over uneven terrain, over improved or unimproved roads, and through congested areas, exercising caution when backing to load or unload at docks, ramps, and similar locations.
Ensure outgoing items are properly marked, labeled, tagged, and/or in properly marked containers.
Perform a full variety of warehousing tasks to include shipping, receiving, inventory, storage, retrieval and issue.
Complete required warehousing documentation and record keeping.
Assemble and pack supplies and equipment for issue or shipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain forklift certification and license.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical.
- A National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Background Investigation is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an MATERIAL HANDLER (MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR/ FORKLIFT OPERATOR) without more than normal supervision. Stock, rotate, and mark stock items. Utilize computer terminal equipment to determine stock locations and make selections by quantity and stock numbers. Operate a forklift to maintain and arrange storage areas in accordance safety procedures - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 100 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from others.Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls of motor vehicles. Moderate physical effort is exerted in operating, turning, backing and controlling heavier vehicles.Forklift operating requires moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the forklift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being moved. Strain is caused by the vibration of the forklift truck.
Working Conditions: Performs assignments indoors in both comfortable and uncomfortable areas, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Work areas maybe hot, dirty, dusty, drafty, inadequately lighted and ventilated, etc. Is subject to cuts, abrasions, injuries from equipment, or the possibility of serious injury resulting from accidents while driving and/or loading and unloading materials.Drives in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds.The forklift operator normally works outside in all kinds of weather and at times works inside in areas that are cold, damp, and drafty. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, forklift trucks overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
