Serve as a Patient Services Assistant for the Enrollment and Eligibility Unit of the Health Administrative Service at the Orlando VA Medical Center.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Determine eligibility/entitlement for benefits of all applicants using various methods.
Conduct interviews with patients who apply for medical benefits in person.
Communicate extensively with the Health Eligibility Center in Atlanta, Georgia for the purpose of resolving conflicts relative to eligibility for healthcare.
Submit documents to HEC in support of any changes to the eligibility status and the result priority group.
Accurately generate patient data cards.
Monitor enrolled patient data base information on a daily basis.
Collect health insurance information from all applicants.
Work Schedule: 8:00 am-4:30 pm M-F Telework is Ad-Hoc

Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary; however, there will be some periods of walking, bending, lifting and carrying of medical records frequently required. Occasionally Veterans may be and angry and potentially violent.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
This position requires a typing requirement of 40 words per minute.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: conduct interviews; determine eligibility; review files; provide customer service; schedule appointments; generate patient data; collect heath insurance information.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
