The purpose of the position is to serve as Patient Services Assistant for the Enrollment and Eligibility Unit of the Health Administration Service (HAS) at the Orlando VA Medical Center (OVAMC). The OVAMC currently consists of a medical center, two (2) outpatient clinics, and four (4) community-based outpatient clinics.
Duties
DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NO LIMITED TOO :
Determines eligibility/entitlement for benefits of all applicants using various methods including income assessments, military documents including separation papers, awards, commendations, computer hospital inquiry (HINQ), Master Patient Index (MPI), Veteran Information System (VIS) and communications with VA Regional Offices or VA Records Processing Centers. .
Conducts interviews with patients who apply for medical benefits in person.
Received application by telephone, by mail, on-line or as referral from another VA.
Responsible for entering demographic information, military service data, insurance, and income information into the VistA system.
Establishes the master patient index and is the basis for determining entitlement to care.
Serves as a base for bill preparation and collection on all billable episodes of inpatient and outpatient care and pharmacy co-payments.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/15/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Applicants must have one (1) full year of specialized experience related to this position. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service.
Specialized experience: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Receiving and distributing mail and correspondence; drafting presentations, memos and reports; timekeeping; scheduling meetings, obtaining conference rooms, and securing equipment for meetings; monitoring procurement transactions; tracking work orders; monitoring correspondence; and monitoring the use of services, supplies and equipment.
Typing Requirement: This position requires a typing requirement of 40 words per minute.

Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary; however, there will be some periods of walking, bending, lifting and carrying of medical records frequently required. Occasionally Veterans may be angry and potentially violent.
