The position functions as a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation) to the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program. The position is located at the Orlando VA Medical Center under the guidance of the Social Work Service. The position supports Homeless Program operations at Daytona, Lake Baldwin and Viera, but the duty station is in Viera.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Develops, performs, and monitors administrative management requirements for the HCHV program.
Applies Administrative policies and maintains various systems.
Drafts correspondence, recommendations, reports, policies, emails, and memoranda related to management and administrative programs and issues.
Provides advice and guidance to mangers and employees on questions and situations related to administrative services provided.
Uses knowledge for the purpose and objectives of the organizational department of the HSHV Program
Tracks homeless Program specific performance improvement projects.
Determines pertinent issues and collects relevant information from a variety of sources.
Prepares a variety of materials including patient letters, memorandums, education, and outreach requests.
Provides excellent written and verbal communication.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
Knowledge of Medical Center Memorandums, policy directive manuals, and administrative procedures.
Initiates meeting agenda items, keep staff inform of scheduled meetings, and assure they have the necessary background information (previous minutes files.)
Performs related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing with people of various backgrounds.
Ability to use Excel, and Word to prepare reports.
Typing Requirement- The Program Support Assistant (Office Automation) requires incumbent to type 40 words per minute (WPM).
Driver's License:

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Communicating effectively and providing excellent customer service skills to all internal and external customers, both written and orally. Collecting, compiling, and tracking of statistical information using various application software to prepare reports for planning, reviewing, and reporting. Establishing and maintaining program files and patient records utilizing several computer programs, advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, Medical Center Memorandums, policy directives manuals, administrative procedures, and fiscal and budgetary control processes. .

Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary and performed in adequately lighted and climate-control office, although physical effort on a daily basis may likely be required to respond to Veteran needs in the medical center, as well as to deliver or track program supplies and/or surplus items to meet with staff within the Orlando VA Medical Center, and other clinics in the Orlando VA Healthcare System as needed. Manual dexterity is required in operation of personal computer and other office equipment.
