The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the Deputy Director, Security Forces Squadron (SFS) and senior civilian advisor, sharing with the Commander/Director the full scope of responsibility for managing all activities of the SFS and overseeing the planning, direction, and timely execution of high visibility SFS programs.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Security Forces Squadron. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Makes comprehensive assessments and evaluations of the unit's goals/objectives which provide a basis for long- range planning to enhance the management support capabilities of the Security Forces Squadron.

  • Employee must maintain current certifications. Disclosure of Political Appointments.
  • This position has been designated as a Key Career Position (KCP). The assignment will not be continuing and has an established tour limitation of 36-60 months as determined by the Career Field Team and Career Field Manager.
  • Employees must sign a Memorandum of Understanding including Selection, Restriction, Outplacement, Tour and Mobility Agreement as a condition of employment.
  • This addendum is effective 1 March 2014 and will be utilized upon incumbent's exit from the position and from that point forward whenever the position is filled.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • DoD Security Physical Security Certification is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD
  • May be required to wear a uniform and meet applicable dress and appearance standards as identified in current governing AFI(s), to include approved protective clothing
  • such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests, and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g., respirator mask).
  • Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be subject to recall.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • A bachelor's and/or master's degree as well as completion of grade-appropriate Civilian Developmental Education (i.e. Squadron Officer School, Air Command Staff College, etc. or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the GS-0080 occupational series must be met.
  • This is a Supervisory Position. A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.
  • Key Career Position: This position has been designated as a Key Career Position (KCP).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes applying knowledge of law enforcement and security operations. Experience with advising unit commanders on issues involving integrated defense and mission assurance. Develops, coordinates, and integrates multiple DoD, HAF, MAJCOM and local plans, polices, and procedures directly affecting national security assets assigned to the installation or geographically separated units. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Expert knowledge of a wide range of law enforcement and physical security concepts, principles, practices and procedures; integrated defense, mission assurance, anti-terrorism and force protection, physical security, law enforcement, criminal investigations, intrusion detection systems, OPSEC, and emerging technology requirements. 2. Comprehensive knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, AF, other federal entities, air base wing organizations, complex entities that govern, interface with, and/or influence mission objectives. 3. Knowledge of a wide range of human resources programs, operations, directives, and procedures which include workplace safety and security, education and training, manpower, military and civilian personnel management, Military Equal Opportunity, and Equal Employment Opportunity. 4.Skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to conduct surveys/studies, accomplish projects, and evaluate results for the management and completion of programs. 5. Ability to manage the work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
