About the Position: The Food Service Worker supports patient meal services by preparing and transporting food trays. Work is primarily performed in a kitchen setting with long periods of standing and walking. The position requires a variety of shifts to include morning, evening, and weekend work. The position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital, Directorate of Clinical Support, Nutrition Care, Fort Moore, GA.

Duties

Arrange completed food trays on carts for transport to wards. Prepare individual and bulk nourishments for patients. Arrange food items on patient trays according to menus for regular or modified diets. Collect carts after each meal for dishwashing.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds may be required.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform while on duty.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Food Service Worker tasks. I can assemble individual and bulk nourishments for patients or customers; wrap individual servings of food items, serving utensils and/or condiments on trays; clean and sanitize carts, tables, and food work areas. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices PHYSICAL EFFORT Work involves light to moderate effort; continuous standing and walking. Frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending. Lifts up to 20 pounds unassisted, lifts more than 20 pounds with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS Work in a kitchen environment with constant exposure to steam and heat from cooking and the dishwasher. Environment often uncomfortably hot, noisy and humid. Danger of slipping on freshly mopped floors or on floors where food has been spilled. Danger of cuts or serious burns due to exposure to hot liquids, sharp blades, and hot surfaces. Exposed to constant temperature changes when going from kitchen to refrigerators and freezers. Work area has adequate lighting.
