Are you an experienced Accountant looking to serve in the public sector? The Architect of the Capitol has an exciting position located in the Financial Reporting and Analysis Branch within the Accounting Division of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Accountant will be responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting activities for the Architect of the Capitol (AOC).
Duties
As an Accountant, you will analyze the accounting accuracy of all financial data that is generated from the AOC's accounting system and provide accountability of all funds as well as assets and liabilities.

Skill using a financial management system to analyze financial and accounting data.
Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
To qualify at the GS-12 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:
Interpreting and applying accounting policies and procedures;
Preparing or reviewing financial statements and other financial reports;
Evaluating internal financial reporting controls and support auditor requests;
Analyzing, verifying, and reconciling fiscal transactions and/or records using a variety of accounting systems; and
Preparing written communications to convey information related to accounting processes, policies and procedures for large scale organizations.
To qualify at the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:
Designing and performing accounting reconciliations in accordance with accounting policies and procedures;
Establishing requirements, preparing and reviewing financial statements and other financial reports;
Implementing internal controls over financial reporting controls and responding to auditor requests; and
Applying professional accounting standards to recommend, interpret or develop accounting policies.
Education
REQUIRED EDUCATION
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree in Accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" and should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")

B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. One of the following must be included:
- 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses, 6 of which can be in business law;
- A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor through written exam;
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
Special Instructions for Foreign Education:
Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment.
Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part of foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree.
You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course by course listing if selected.
