Duties
Senior attorney and legal expert with responsibility for planning and accomplishing diversified legal work pertaining to all DFAS personnel, administrative and litigation matters subject to the direction and guidance of the DGC AEL.
Subject matter expert in all aspects of administrative or judicial processing’s concerning fraud, false claims, conflict of interest and ethics concerning both government contractors and government employees.
Monitors proposed legislation and other Congressional activities and furnishes formal or informal comments to the DFAS General Counsel, DFAS Principal Deputy General Counsel, and DFAS DGC AEL, or to the lead agency for the legislation in question.
Independently plans, organizes, and conducts studies, and analyzes legal problems, cases, legislative proposals, or changes in regulations and policies for their effect on DFAS, its clients and customers, and DoD.
Conducts research, analyzes findings, and applies pertinent statues, judicial decisions, administrative regulations, agreements, and original legal reasoning to the solution of complex personnel law matters affecting Federal civilian employees.

Qualifications
GS-15 Qualifications: Assignments require the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. In addition, the attorney shall have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Attorneys performing duties at the GS-15, or equivalent-level positions are expected to perform with substantial independence even when working on the most complex or difficult matters.
