Duties
Serves as an expert attorney in all practice areas to include but not limited to: fiscal law, federal acquisition and contract administration, assisted acquisitions, commercial bankruptcy debt collection, and contract and vendor pay.
Coordinates legislative issues within DFAS by tracking proposed legislation for impact on the directorate, researching the effects of the proposed legislation and drafting proposed legislation as necessary.
Performs research, conducts studies, and renders opinions on legal problems involving complex and difficult questions and factual situations pertaining to issues and other critical or sensitive matters that arise within the Directorate.
Performs legal review of memoranda, letters, point papers, and responses to high-level inquiries received and advises the Deputy General Counsel, the Principal Deputy General Counsel, and the General Counsel on these matters.
Renders legal advice and counsel to senior management, supervisory officials and other DFAS attorneys and comparable levels outside DFAS independently.

Qualifications
GS-14: Assignments require the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. In addition, the attorney shall have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Attorneys performing duties at the GS-14, or equivalent-level positions are expected to perform with substantial independence even when working on the most complex or difficult matters.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
