About the Position: Serve as a Detective within the Criminal Investigation Branch at the Office of the Provost Marshal, on Joint Base Lewis McChord WA.

Duties

Conduct investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons. Develop information on suspects concerning their habits, associates, characteristics, aliases, and other personal information and uses such information in the investigative process. Serve as Point of Contact (POC) for civil law enforcement agencies required to serve due process to military and civilian personnel on the installation. Responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence obtained during investigations, raids, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". The incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or graduate within one year of hire date.
  • The incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Military Police Investigator Course or complete within one year of hire date.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training and certification for the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
