About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Emergency Services at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
Duties
Performs a full range of police and Watch Commander duties on a rotating basis.
Supervises the enforcement of laws, rules, regulations and Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
Serves as incident commander during emergencies and fills assigned positions on the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) incident management team as directed.
Coordinates with agencies such as Criminal Investigation Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Secret Service in the operational planning when events include high ranking leaders/officials.
Instructs and supervises instructor(s) with a thorough specialized technical knowledge of law enforcement techniques/procedures, laws, electronic communications systems, and weapon systems.
Maintains and updates courses, lesson plans, and examinations using materials from various sources.
Completes job analysis, task inventory, job task data cards and task analysis information sheets for course development.
Travels to other military installations and local city, county, and state police agencies to accomplish duties relating to the development of training.
Supervises military and civilian personnel.
Makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisor(s).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
- Shift work, overtime, and weather essential duty is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
- This position requires the incumbent to maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene in accordance with existing regulations.
- This position may require the incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a prescribed uniform.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass an entry level physical and annual re-certification of standard Army Physical fitness/agility test in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass the US Army Military Police School-accredited academy or have an approved exception to policy prior to assignment of law enforcement duties.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid stateside motor vehicle operator's license.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- One year supervisory probationary period may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes instructing law enforcement techniques/procedures, laws, electronic communications systems, and weapon systems; Planning, directing, and reviewing the activities of police officers; Assigning work to subordinate police officers; Participating in investigations; And knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
