About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations with authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action. Through subordinate supervisors, directs the activities of civilian and military law enforcement and support personnel to include monitoring progress of Position Description major projects. Identifies problem areas and makes necessary changes in policies and procedures to correct deficiencies and to meet short and long range objectives. As the Deputy Chief, Law Enforcement Division, the incumbent develops law enforcement programs and operating plans for the JBLM community.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Operates a government motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties (valid state operator's license required).
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-appointment physical and annual physicals thereafter.
  • Incumbent may, as appropriate, be required to wear the prescribed uniform.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment in case of hazardous/chemical incident (respirators, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Must be able to maintain qualification for the Individual Reliability Program.
  • May require working scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent may be required to attend the Department of the Army Civilian Police Academy.
  • Position requires skill in the use of authorized firearms (qualification and recertification in accordance with Army Standard Qualifications requirements). Incumbent must successfully complete semi-annual qualification on his or her assigned weapon.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP)/Drug Testing.
  • One year Supervisory probationary period may be required.
