Duties

Directs, manages and supervises traffic collisions investigations, traffic SOP and major collisions. Possesses arrest and apprehension authority, and is required to carry a firearm in the performance of duties. Supervises a staff of military and/or Department of the Army civilian police officers that specialize in traffic safety enforcement. Primary instructor for the basic traffic collision course, DUI protocol and traffic stops. Oversees the review of all traffic accident investigations. Coordinates with local, State and Federal law enforcement authorities regarding traffic activities Responsible for direction of traffic patrols throughout the installation. Responsible for coordinating life cycle maintenance and replacement of equipment assigned to the section

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-appointment and annual physicals thereafter.
  • Incumbent must pass be able to be medically cleared and take and pass a physical agility test within one year of hire and every 12 months commensurate with the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent may, as appropriate, be required to wear the prescribed uniform.
  • This is a drug testing position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state's drivers license.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete semi-annual qualification on his or her assigned weapon.
  • Must be able to be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, radar gun and breathalyzer equipment
  • Position is covered by the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment in case of hazardous/chemical incident (respirators, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Incumbent must pass the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Mixed Basic Police training program.
  • Requires working rotating shifts and may be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operation
  • One year Supervisory probation period may be required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
