You will serve as a CONTAINMENT FABRICATOR SUPERVISOR in the Production Resources Department (Code 900), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Shop (Code 990), Emergency Services of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be first line Containment Fabricator Supervisor over subordinates accomplishing the work of Containment Barriers through assigned Leaders. You will develop the fabrication, methods taken, materials needed to create and install, lay out work and equipment used for preparation and construction of radiological and non-radiological barriers and enclosures. You will use complex equipment and calibration instruments to prepare and manufacture Containment area. You will select, cut, shape, join, bond, fit and assemble Containments. You will interpret and correctly follow complex written instructions, drawings, blueprints, specifications, radiological engineering standard, proper ventilation requirements for each situation. You will ensure the personnel and administrative objectives, programs and policies are met.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Leading or supervising work performed by subordinates; planning division of workload based on capabilities of available employees, workplace conditions, and priority of projects. Leading or supervising work performed by subordinates evaluating skills of the team members and seeking guidance and advice from the trade (non fabric worker) expert or trade supervisor. Leading or supervising processes involved in the fabric worker trade while initiating any necessary corrective actions to overcome delays in project completion. Knowledge of all materials used in a given line of work. Knowledge of trade theory and up-to-date trade practices. Fabricates tools/fixtures/gages with critical dimensions. Ability to work independently, make decisions, plan operations, show job responsibility, and exercise initiative. Follows written directions from supervisor and work orders, Manufacturers' guides, catalogues, technical manuals, bulletins, codes, drawings, blueprints, charts, and maps. Completes maintenance work on tools and equipment including preventive maintenance, grinding, and setting tools, etc. Makes adjustments on equipment to operating tolerances. Ability to use measuring devices for determining where to cut, how to fit, how to mark material, etc. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
