You will serve as a CONTAINMENT FABRICATOR LEADER in the Production Resources Department (Code 900) under the Production Resources
Department Manager (Code 901) in the Production Resources Shop (Code 990), Emergency Services of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will evaluate and fabricate a wide range of complex Containment Barriers throughout the shipyard including such areas radiological and non-radiological, nuclear and nonnuclear situations.
You will assign the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led, demonstrating proper work methods.
You will determine and develop the fabrication, methods taken, materials needed to create and install, lay out work and equipment used for preparation and construction of radiological and non-radiological barriers and enclosures.
You will select, cut, shape, join, bonds, fit and assemble containments.
You will advise other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- The position often requires irregular hours.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Experience reading, interpreting, and following complex written instructions, drawings, blueprints, specifications, radiological engineering standard, proper ventilation requirements for each situation and process instructions, corporate standards, and shop practices.
Experience planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing numerous quality-related requirements as they relate to design, fabrication, inspection, installation, and removal for both off-hull and in-hull enclosures.
Experience using mathematical principles of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry to figure out irregular curves, angles, planes, pitches, cylindrical, tapered, truncated cones and frustums for Containment lay out.
Experience using a variety of sensitive, calibrated, and precision trade specific instruments and equipment such as: laser no-touch thermometers, digital laser levels, digital angle locaters, micrometers, automatic wedge, welding sealers, ultrasonic sealers, radio frequency heat sealers, CNC machines, air driven grommet, presses, computerized light weight, medium weight, and heavy weight sewing machines, programmable, embroidery machines, and programmable box stitch machines.
