About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 407th AFSB, AFSB-Log Readiness Center, Transportation Division, Movement Branch, Freight Section, Fort Cavazos, Texas.

Duties

Prepare cost comparisons to determine the most effective mode of transportation. Determine appropriate shipping methods for specialized cargo, such as temperature sensitive, hazardous, oversized signature service, or expedited shipments. Prepare recurring and special reports and compiles statistics from data requiring some reformulation and revised formats. Utilize automated transportation and freight tracking systems in order to prepare necessary transportation documents. Process documentation associated with the shipment of freight. Conduct post-audits on documentation and takes corrective action.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Department of Defense government driver's license and a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

To qualify for GS-07- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing transportation regulations and/or carrier requirements to process a wide range of shipments locally or abroad; and utilizing transportation automated systems to prepare shipping documentation for freight movements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR, Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Logistics or Transportation. OR, Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailClericalTechnical CompetenceTechnical Documentation Time in Grade Requirement for GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
