You will serve as a SAFETY DATA SPECIALIST within NAVSAFECOM.
Duties
You will review mishaps and hazard related source data.
You will examine documents and electronically submitted data to ensure completeness and accuracy.
You will resolve inconsistencies and edit narrative entries to remove inappropriate material and standardize the text format across all reports.
You will provide support in all matter relating to operational and policy assets of safety databases.
You will provide Quality Assurance to the safety databases to optimize capabilities in generating safety information for internal and external customers.
Requirements

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate:
1) Demonstrating skills in other job-relevant information systems and software applications, such as spreadsheets, automated research tools, database applications, and the Internet.
2) Applying knowledge of occupational safety and mishap reporting to understand the data submitted to the RMI database.
3) Articulating information on all database inconsistencies and determine the level of importance required and methods to recommend areas of concern to subject matter experts or detect anomalies within the system.
4) Utilizing knowledge, capabilities, and practices associated with the Department of Defense, Federal OSHA, and applicable international health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures used to develop and implement mishap and environmental health prevention practices and measures in shore-based workplaces.
5) Applying knowledge of naval aircraft, surface ships, submarines, and motor vehicles, as well as shore-based equipment to correctly recognize descriptions and code information.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
