This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The incumbent will work for Directorate of Emergency Services Police/Provost Marshall Division Patrol Branch at JBLM, WA.
Duties
Attend guard mounts with prior shift and succeeding shifts to ensure daily activities are passed on.
Process and review law enforcement reports for accuracy and completeness through the Army Law Enforcement Report System before final
submission to Police Administration.
Process suspects in accordance with established booking policies and procedures such takes fingerprint and collecting DNA samples.
Assist the Duty Officer and/or Patrol Supervisor during accidents and criminal incidents by Initiating emergency actions.
Maintain communications with Law Enforcement (DACP and Military Police) personnel and passes directions and information to patrols on
assignment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the
duration of employment.
- This position requires a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of
physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and
testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Mission Essential: In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the
incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or
possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as
described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a
regularly scheduled basis.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a prescribed uniform.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in
the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques; TASER, radar guns, breath alcohol analysis
instruments, and other tasks.
- This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons and successfully complete qualification and re-certification semi-annually and thereafter of Firearms Testing
- This position requires the incumbent to attend the US Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate, unless
incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) experience applying laws/policies to determine applicable charges and violations; 2) experience taking charge of an accident scene and conduct investigations; 3) operate radar equipment when enforcing traffic regulations or laws; and 4) experience in law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques for maintaining order and protecting life and property.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
