About the Position: The incumbent will plan, implement, administer, and evaluate a 24 hour safety and occupational health program for military and civilian personnel, covering medical, dental, research and medical support facilities (e.g., pharmacy, hospital laboratories, outlying health clinics, etc.).
Duties
Develop and issue local directives and procedures establishing technical and administrative safety and occupational health requirements for the command's healthcare facilities and the outlying health clinics.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the safety program to include collecting and maintaining records of accident statistics for both the hospital and outlying health clinics.
Advise management, staff, and operating officials on safety matters.
Conduct research and evaluate studies of accidents to determine unfavorable trends, cause factors, contributing conditions, and other related factors involving equipment performance.
Plan and conduct safety education activities, selects management candidates for specialized safety courses.
Develops and promotes safety campaign materials, ensures that safety standards are published in appropriate training manuals, and establishes numerous safety committees.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Inclement Weather Essential: Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: applying safety and occupational health laws, policies, regulations and directives to eliminate or control potential hazards; conducting safety and occupational health surveys to identify, analyze and evaluate hazards/risks; implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses; training personnel in safety and occupational health subjects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
