You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety Division, Marine Corps Base/Marine Corps Combat Development Command of MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO.

Duties

You will serve as the lead trainer by scheduling classes preparing syllabuses and teaching outlines for subordinate safety and occupational health specialists. You will develop, plan, organize, coordinate, administer and evaluate a comprehensive occupational safety and health, traffic, and recreational/off-duty safety program. You will provide guidance, recommendations, and assistance to installation military and civilian personnel concerning established safety methods and techniques in order to eliminate and reduce exposure to hazards, mishaps, and personal injuries. You will assist in designated command investigations. You will provide technical safety program management oversight for mandated programs.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • You will be required to be able to be fit tested with a face-fitting respirator and retain that capability.
  • In the performance of duties the incumbent is required to withstand frequent and prolonged periods of waiting, standing, bending, climbing, crouching, stretching, and lifting moderately heave items.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting safety and occupational health inspections, Safety Training and providing technical guidance as safety program manager. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting safety and occupational health inspections and Safety Training. In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:

GS-11:

I have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
