This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
Duties
In this position, you will:
Perform technical and non-technical duties associated with the operational support of NIST Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) (SRMs are the trademark of NIST and commonly known as Certified Reference Materials).
Ensure the Office of Reference Materials meets the requirements for conformance with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 standard.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 12 level (ZP-III at NIST). Specialized experience includes: Experience in maintaining a Quality System to ensure it remains effective and in conformance to a quality system standard such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 9001. Experience in audits or assessments, risk management, quality performance, and continuous improvement. Experience in providing scientific support activities of reference materials or scientific products. Experience in leading or facilitating project management activities..

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
