The employee serves as a maintenance worker of the Engineering Service, at the VA Healthcare System, Bay Pines Florida. The primary purpose of the position is to provide maintenance support for the systems and facilities of the Healthcare System.
Duties
Major Duties:
Performs mechanic and housekeeping maintenance
Installing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring and fixtures, controls, and equipment.
Locates defective parts/equipment through visual observation or use of test equipment.
Performs minor maintenance and repair work for electrical, carpentry, plumbing, air conditioning and mechanical trades.
Constructing, altering, maintaining and repairing buildings, structures, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, and other items.
Operates and uses hand and power tools
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8hr day shift

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: This position requires working inawkward and cramped positions and frequently requires kneeling, stooping and bending. Duties require lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs. stacking heavy materials, e.g., concrete and masonry products, etc. and frequently loading and unloading of building materials and furnishings on and off delivery vehicles, and pushing hand powered wheel barrows with construction debris for disposal in trash dumpsters, and cement for placement and application by others. Employee may be required to work in or around hazardous materials, such mold and asbestos.
Working Conditions: Employee primary works indoors, occasionally in tight, cramped spaces, in hot and high humid conditions, often dusty and dirty. Work with small powered equipment which subject employee to a change of injury due to nature of work involved.
