Serve as a Maintenance Worker for Facilities Management Service, at he VA Healthcare System, Bay Pines, Florida. The primary purpose of the position is to provide support for the Interior Design/Planning Section of the Healthcare System.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Operate/use simple hand and power tools including saws, hammers, drills, planes, etc.
Minor tool maintenance, department storage assistance and transportation of materials and furnishing between sites.
Removal and installation of furniture, art and signage.
Knowledge of various trade principles, materials, modular systems furniture installation and safety standards.
Reading instructions, manuals, diagrams and other job aids.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: This position requires working in awkward and cramped positions and frequently requires kneeling, stooping and bending. Duties require lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs. stacking heavy materials, e.g., concrete and masonry products, etc. and frequently loading and unloading of building materials and furnishings on and off delivery vehicles, and pushing hand powered wheel barrows with construction debris for disposal in trash dumpsters, and cement for placement and application by others. Employee may be required to work in or around hazardous materials such as mold and asbestos.
Working Conditions: Employee primarily works indoors, occasionally in tight, cramped spaces in hot and high humid conditions often dusty and dirty. Work with small powered equipment which subject employee to a chance of injury due to nature of work involved.
