The Maintenance Worker performs mechanic and housekeeping maintenance, and is first call on emergent needs during non-administrative hours within the facility. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining an acceptable range of aesthetic and aseptic levels of cleanliness required by The Joint Commission standards and must coordinate work schedules with patient care staff to minimize interference with patient care routine.
Duties
Duties include:
Maintenance and repair involving utility and supply systems for electrical, carpentry, plumbing, air conditioning, and mechanical trades,
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring and fixtures, controls, equipment, preliminary type A/C troubleshooting and repair, and minor plumbing repairs.
Perform work on fixtures, fittings, sewage, water, gas and oil lines, compressed air, vacuum, soap systems, water closets, water heaters, hydrants, valves, pumps and high-pressure piping systems.
Remove, replace, tighten, splice, solder and insulate defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures.
Locate defective parts/equipment either visually or by use of testing equipment (test lamps, voltage testers, ammeters and polarity testers).
Locate broken, worn, damaged or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls and equipment.
Repair, rearrange and hook up outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators and circuit breakers.
Repair defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems.
Connect new items to existing systems such as water heaters, disposal units, faucets, and electrical outlets.
Repair plumbing systems using tapes, rules, hacksaws, pipe threaders and cutters, packing and caulking irons, pipe wrenches, gauges and conduit bending equipment.
Construct, alter, maintain and repair buildings, structures,, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, etc. using wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials.
Maintain, install, repair and weatherproof roofs.
Measure, cut, construct, install, modify or repair wood, composite, and wood substitute items.
Operate and use carpentry tools: saws, hammers, drills, planes, routers, power nails, glue guns, sanders, bonding materials and specialized fasteners, etc.
Apply coating materials and finish plaster surfaces.
Prepare and paint surfaces.
Maintain, repair, alter and construct masonry structures.
Perform janitorial/housekeeping/custodial work to include sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, washing, dusting and polishing.
Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, with some holidays.

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which is ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Frequently works in awkward and cramped positions. Work normally requires extensive standing, walking, kneeling, and bending positions. May lift and move materials up to 40 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
Working Conditions: Often works in areas that are cramped, dusty, greasy, and wet. May work outdoors and in a wide range of temperatures.
