This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Birmingham Disaster Loan Service Center in Birmingham, AL. Incumbent serves as a Loan Specialist and is responsible for servicing or liquidating a full range of disaster business and home loans.
Duties
Analyzes financial statements of obligors and endeavors to determine their prospects for
continued payment on consumer and commercial loans in connection with modifications of payments or other loan terms. Works closely with financial institutions and other commercial entities.
Prepares written credit recommendations and obtains supervisory approval on a variety of
collection as well as real estate transactions.
Prepares written recommendations for charge off actions on consumer and commercial loans
where all collateral has been disposed of or where SBA determines that further liquidation of collateral is not economically feasible. Reviews charged off consumer and commercial loans that are subject to periodic review to endeavor to discover assets that may be available.
Reviews routine and standard consumer and commercial loan documents and determines SBA's rights in the collateral. Inventories collateral to assure that all pledged property is available or duly accounted for. Obtains appraisals and liquidating value of the inventoried property.
Investigates and determines financial responsibility of obligors who may be liable for the payment of indebtedness for use in connection with recommending collection procedures, or legal action to enforce payment.

- You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
Qualifications
GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: applying the knowledge of regulations and procedures governing the servicing, purchasing, and/or liquidation of consumer and commercial loans; AND analyzing, evaluating and identifying financial management problems, and recommending appropriate action. These qualifications must clearly be referenced in your resume.

Education may be substituted for experience for this position.

GS-09: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree in the following major field of study: finance, business administration, economics, accounting, insurance, engineering, mathematics, banking and credit, law, real estate operations, statistics; or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
Combination of Experience and Education:
GS-09: Combination of education and experience as specified above. For example, an applicant who has 1.0 full year of Masters level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
