This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Birmingham Disaster Loan Service Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Serves as a Loan Specialist and is responsible for servicing or liquidating a full range of disaster business and home loans.
Duties
Duties:
Reviews a variety of consumer and commercial loan documents, most of which include consideration and evaluation of complicating factors and determines SBA's rights in the collateral. Inventories collateral to assure that all pledged property is available or duly accounted for. Obtains appraisals and liquidating value of the inventoried property.
Investigates and determines financial responsibility of obligors who may be liable for the payment of indebtedness for use in connection with recommending collection procedures, or legal action to enforce payment.
Prepares written credit recommendations and obtains supervisory approval on a variety of collection as well as real estate transactions.
Prepares written recommendations for charge off actions on consumer and commercial loans where collateral has been disposed of or where SBA deems further liquidation of collateral is not economically feasible. Reviews charged off consumer and commercial loans that are subject to periodic review to endeavor to discover assets that may be available.
Negotiates with obligors for compromise agreements in cases of extreme hardship; evaluates requests for releases of lien, and/or obligor in order to obtain the greatest possible recovery for the Agency.
Provides necessary information as needed to legal staff in preparing various releases and other documents to be executed on behalf of SBA. Supplies information necessary for filing lawsuits against obligors on behalf of the Agency.
Requirements

- You must successfully complete a background investigation.
- You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period.
- This is not a drug testing designated position (TDP).
- This is a bargaining unit position with AFGE Local 228.
Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the duties that include following the established procedures in the servicing, collection, and/or liquidation actions of the more complex and problematic business and home loan applications; reviewing and analyzing financial condition of borrowers to detect financial trends and initiate corrective action; developing and participating in training programs for subordinate personnel; and assisting in drafting and editing standard loan documents, reports, and/or correspondence.

Education may not be substituted for experience for this position.
