About the Position: Serves as supervisor of the Functional Unit Training Products Branch and as a Senior Training Specialist responsible for developing unit training materials collective training programs (i.e., collective tasks, Combined Arms Training Strategies (CATS)), Training Support Packages (TSPs),Training Circulars (TCs), drills, exercises, unit vignettes, multimedia training, Standard METL, training resource templates).
Duties
Develop new concepts, ideas, and methods for better management of the development process.
Determine causes of unfavorable trends and variations and directs corrective action within general policy and program guidance.
Manage workforce through subordinate civilian and military employees and assures accomplishment of mission and functions within budgetary and manpower limitations imposed by higher authorities.
Evaluate the effectiveness of learning via new media. As needed, develops, and conducts special pilot workshops to ensure clear understanding of training design characteristics and rationale.
Develop methods of using new training media in designing special materials in areas where new designs are needed.
Assure completeness and adequacy of all information and data and compliance with established due dates.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Logistics such as the development of collective tasks, Training Support Packages (TSP), and Combined Arms Training Strategies (CATS). Understands overall collective training product content/structure, the Systems Approach to Training (SAT) process, and a practical knowledge of training methods and techniques. Knowledge of publications such as Tables of Organization and Equipment, Army Doctrine Publications (ADPs), Army Doctrine Reference Publications (ADRPs), Field Manuals, Technical Manuals and/or Army Regulations in developing collective/unit training products. Expertise in conducting research, develop methods and approaches to develop and review/revise complete training products. Skill in identifying actual or potential problem areas such as trends, imbalances, deficiencies, and implement necessary changes to resolve problem. Proficiency in coordinating with subject matter experts to ensure quality finished project. Proficiency in reviewing existing training materials, interprets, and advises of doctrinal changes concerning Sustainment unit training materials and actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
