You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Submarine Work Packaging and Control Branch (Code 225), Process Controls Division (Code 220), Office of the Chief Engineer (Code 240), Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for task packaging, material management, work release and certification for complex ship and submarine availabilities in accordance with Non Nuclear Work Packaging and Process Guide.
You will execute project work packaging strategies, meeting schedule priorities, resolving schedule priorities for project managers.
You will coordinate inside shop work required for the project, as well as work certification function.
You will assemble complete tasks packages that contain required references, forms, material, and work authorization form, to allow production personnel to complete first time quality work on schedule and within budget.
You will prioritize and release tasks, in accordance with project’s Daily Production list (DPL) with input from Zone Managers, Lead Scheduler, work Packaging and Control Manager, or other project management personnel.
You will coordinate and provide task packages to the inside shop Zone Managers and Project Zone Managers for the job summary review process.
You will perform review of TWDs to determine material requirements and status of the listed material sheet.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience working in close liaison with other organizations such as production shop, project leadership, engineering leadership, with regards to management of work packaging products and services;
Experience in shipyard production methods, technical procedures, funding, processes, material and equipment required for the maintenance and repair overhaul of complex navy vessels;
Experience in ship systems, the normal progression of work, the work authorization process, and a working knowledge of all aspects of the Work Packaging and Control process;
Experience in material acquisition, storage and delivery procedures;
Experience writing and/or reviewing Technical Work Documents such as Deficiency reports (DFs), Deficiency Logs (DLs) and Task Group Instructions (TGIs).
